Biography

William and John T, were twins. Pvt William G. Dorsey was killed in the Civil War. There is a marker in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Hilliard, Franklin County, Ohio. The same cemetery as his father, mother, sister Adeline and half brother Presley. Without DNA we can't be positive it's the same William Doresy but it seems a good bet. Pvt William H.(Typo?) Dorsey served with the 95th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

  • Excerpt from Centennial Biographical History of Columbus and Franklin County Ohio 1901: James B. Dorsey was a native of PA where he spent the days of his youth. He was of German descent. When a young man, he moved to Licking County, Ohio, where he met and married Miss Nancy Wells, a native of that county. He was a miller and erected a mill at Kirksville, Ohio, operating the same for many years. On the expiration of that period he came to Franklin County where he purchased other mills continuing in that business until his death at age 55 [Error: he is alive in 1860 census at age 60]. His wife died of smallpox at age 65. They were the parents of three sons and three daughters, all of whom reached mature years, while five are yet alive, namely: John T. born 16 May 1840 Licking County; William G., his twin brother, who died in the Civil War; Mrs. Jane Nedrow; Albert G. who served in the Union Army; Mrs. Angeline Damude (or Daymude) and Mrs. Adeline O'Brien, twins.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
