Biography

Isobel Douglas is a member of Clan Douglas.
European Aristocracy
Isobel Douglas was a member of the aristocracy in Scotland.

Isobel was the daughter of William Douglas.[1]

She married Andrew Kerr.[1] They had issue:

  1. Andrew, d.v.p. bef. 27 Apr 1467[1]
  2. Walter, d. 25 Nov 1501[1][2]

Research Notes

  • From a charter by William Douglas of Cavers in 1450 referring to Walter Kerr as his nepoti, one can infer her marriage to Andrew was prior to 1450 placing her birth prior to 1438. Her son Andrew, however, was likely at least 18 years of age on 9 Jul 1466 so that one can place his birth prior to 1448 and the marriage prior to 1447 and Isobel's birth prior to 1435. Digging deeper, however, one can observe that her second son was at least of age 14 on 30 Dec 1449, placing her first son's birth prior to 1434 and her birth prior to 1421.
  • The subject of this profile has been detached as a daughter of Egidia Stewart and William Douglas, because there appear to be no realiable sources for such a relationship, and because William Douglas died in 1392. Stevens-17832 20:48, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Medieval Land Project does not support these findings

No, but Scots Peerage does, as does the 1450 charter mentioned in the research notes. Does MedLands suggest an alternative? And if so, do they provide sources?

Thank you for your interest in this historical profile.

Can reconnect mother as Egidia Stewart. (Stewart-986)

Found a source connecting Egidia Stewart to William Douglas. (page 42)

"King Robert Stewart, 2nd of Scotland, d.1390-m, 1st Eliz. Mure. Princess Egidia Stewart, m. William Douglas, Lord Middisdaley..."

Thanks for the added citation. Can you view that original work to see if the author provides any primary source documents or other reliable sources to prove the relationship? Unfortunately, just stating that a person was related isn't really sufficient.

The parents needs to be look at. It appears based on birth year info that her second ggf should be her father as he is born in 1376. The other 1st ggf shows birth in 1396. The gf list show birth in 1424 and her birth in 1405. It has father being born after her.

I agree, but I don't have a pre-1500 certification to edit it. When the Scotland Project WikiTree became the co-manager, I thought it would be changed? I'm going to ask Douglas-3089 to edited it. Thank you.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for calling this to our attention. One set of parents was detached recently from this profile, and it looks like a merge got us in this situation. We'll take a look and try to straighten it out, these parents are clearly not right.

She is now attached to the correct father, although a good deal of research needs to be done to flesh out a biography for her. She appears to be listed in all the records as 'unknown' Douglas, daughter of William of Cavers, so a source needs to be found showing how her name ended up being Isobel. And it looks as though she had at least three children from her marriage to Andrew Kerr....the Scotland Project is working on a long back-log of profiles right now, but if you would like to research Isobel and post your findings here, someone with pre-1500 certification will be happy to add your work to her profile. Thanks again for pointing out the problems with her pedigree. (edited to add: birthdates for Isobel and her father are not documented and still need to be adjusted, he was either born earlier or she was born later or perhaps both)

Douglas-2672 and Douglas-394 appear to represent the same person because: clear duplicates
It is also unknown who William married.

Her parents can't be William and Catherine. It is more likely she was a sister of Archibald Douglas, William's father.

This is the most likely theory I've seen. Chris would you please edit this profile? I do not have a pre-1500 certification. Thank you.

Wife of William Douglas, 3rd Lord of Cavers is unknown, and the mother of Unknown (Douglas) Ker is also unknown. Please remove Egidia Stewart as her mother.

I believe this is Isabel (Isobel) Douglas of Cavers, b. 1405 Cavers, Scotland, d. Cessford, Scotland.
