Obituary:

Richard C. DOYLE December 4, 1918 ~ February 4, 2009 Passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Barbara, and their children, Janet Sheehy (Dick), Geoffrey (Deb), and Gillian at his bedside. Born Dec. 4, 1918 in New Westminster, BC, Canada, Richard was the youngest of six children. He grew up in Tsawwassen, overlooking the Strait of Georgia. During the Depression, the family moved to Los Angeles, CA, where Richard worked for Lockheed Aircraft, the highlight of that time was supporting the war effort at Langford Lodge airbase in Northern Ireland during WWII. Later, he joined the US Army and served his country in the occupation forces in Japan. Upon his return, he graduated from UCLA and worked for the Boeing Company in Seattle, WA for 36 years. He worked as a professional engineer on a variety of programs, including a 2 year assignment to Munich, West Germany in the mid-'60s. His favorite assignments were the YC-14 and the Stealth Bomber, the last program he worked on prior to his retirement. In 1952, he and Barbara were married, joining two world travelers together in a long and loving marriage that lasted 56 wonderful years. He said his greatest accomplishment was his family, his wife and three children. Richard loved to discuss politics with friends and family alike and he loved to travel. He played competitive badminton, golf, and tennis, and jogged faithfully for many years. He was a shining example of how a life full of athletic activity meant he was still riding his recumbent bicycle 3 miles a day - at 90! He was a wonderful husband, father and friend, and will be greatly missed. A memorial service in his honor will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Medina, Washington. Internment will be in Victoria, BC at a later date.
