Biography

Married Gertrude Powers, 9 May 1927 in Meriden, Connecticut.

He was born in St. Johns, Newfoundland, on 29 or 30 June, 1902.

The 1930 census, he is living in Meriden, CT, with his wife, two sons (James and Matthew), and in-laws, Edward and Mary Powers.

His wife appears in the 1940 census without him, but they go on to have more children after 1940, so James was likely at war or otherwise not there that day.

Research Notes

There is a James Doyle, born approx. 1901 in St. Johns, Newfoundland, who arrived at New York, New York, bound for Boston, MA. He arrived 22 September 1922, on the ship Rosalind. His point of contact at home was his father James Doyle who lived in St. John's. This is likely him, as he was going with a James MacDonald to visit an "Aunt, Mrs. Power, 277 Edward St. E Boston Mass." James' contact was HIS father, Michael McDonald [sic], St. Johns, Newfoundland. The men were 21 and 24.

Lending credence to this is the fact that James lived in Boston at the time of his marriage, and a Mr. and Mrs. Harold Powers were the attendants at the wedding.

He may possibly be the James Doyle living in St Johns, Newfoundland, Canada, in the 1921 Newfoundland census. He would be living with his father, James, mother, Mary, and brother, John. This is probably him, as the census states he was born in June 1902. (his parents in November 1860 (dad) and April 1860 (mom), and his brother in December 1904).
