Katherine Drummond of Blair was the daughter of George Drummond, 1st of Blair, who was formerly captain of Tantallon Castle. Her mother was Catherine Hay of Megginch, daughter of Peter Hay of Megginch and his wife Margaret Chrichton. [4] [1]
"Katherine Drummond of Blair was of a cadet Drummond branch, and was the great-great-great granddaughter of Sir Walter Drummond of Stobhall, 13th Chief of the House of Drummond. Thus, the Magruders have a maternal lineage to the Drummond clan. [5]
Writing for the American Clan Gregor Society in 1978, Dr. Charles G. Kurz, Clan Librarian, reported that "Katherine Drummond married Nicholas Campbell of Keithick, son of Donald Campbell, before 1562. [4][1] Kurz noted that Nicholas was much older than Katherine and that the marriage was possible because the Reformation permitted Reformed clergy to marry.
On 25 July 1583 at Lauton, a Contract of Excambion was agreed between James, Lord Ogilvy , James, Master of Ogilvy, his son and apparent heir and on behalf of Jane Ruthven, spouse of said Master, on the one part, and Mr. Nicol Campbell of Kethick and Katherine Drummond, his spouse, on the other part whereby said Lord Ogilvy was to infeft said Mr. Nicol and his spouse in the lands of Tullymurdock with mill and mill lands and half lands of Wardroperton, reserving salmon fishings on the water of Northesk; and said Mr. Nicol to infeft said Lord Ogilvy and his spouse, in liferent and their son in fee, in the lands of Dalvanie and Craignity in Glenisla with forests thereof and pasture in Gleneybrachtie, Glasworye and Glasworyebeg. She died in 1604 in Bendochy, Scotland. [8] However, this source reports that she was 82 or 83 years old at her death, which would place her birth at 1521, considerably earlier than the other estimated birth years given for her. [9]
