Biography

Rice Duncan Sr. is a member of Duncan Clan.

Rice Duncan, (aka Rice Durron Duncan) son of Marshall Duncan and Mary Ann Durron

Estimated Birth : 15 Feb 1743 Rowan, Surry County, North Carolina (vs about 1740). [1]

Marriage

1769 Rice married Elizabeth Cobb in the year of 1769.[2]
Marriage 1769 Surry, North Carolina, Elizabeth Dodge Cobb[1]
Disputed Spouse - Reportedly married Clora Unknown - Unknown if this was a 1st marriage. No sources located to support this connection. Note: I have not found Elizabeth's maiden name yet.

Rice presumably married Elizabeth Cobb about 1760; There is no proof of marriage or Elizabeth's maiden name (born 1730-40); Circumstantial evidence/support indicates

Elizabeth Dodge Cobb [1]
1794 - Elizabeth settled on the south side of the Watauga River where it joins the Holston River in TN[3]. The chain carriers for the survey of her land in 1794 were Joseph and Robert Duncan, (probably her sons) [4].
1803 - She had a ferry across the Holston River[5].

Death

Estimated Death : 1777 most likely Washington, Tennessee,

Rice died before 1777, presumably in an Indian raid on the Holston River. Rice was in the area, and one Rice Duncan had a son Joseph named in the will of Roseannah Stevenson ; this same Joseph appears to be the son of Elizabeth, whose husband (Rice) was killed in 1777. (Some date discrepancy as one source shows Elizabeth's pension was supposedly in 1771 vs 1777). Elizabeth was left with five small children, [6]

  • (Elizabeth Cobb's Pension (1771 vs 1777): Appears to be the wife of Rice (of the Marshall Duncan Family . Elizabeth obtained a pension from the Virginia House of delegates and is described as a crippled widow with five children (unnamed). [7]

Will

No will/estate located for Rice confirming approximate death; 5 children identified from other records; presumably Rice's (and Elizabeth) children. [8]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Rice by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Rice:
