This profile is a collaborative work-in-progress. Can you contribute information or sources?

No original source records have been located to confirm birth, marriage or definitive relationship. It appears that some erroneous information may have been published, and perhaps republished/reported, making the “actual facts” obscure. Several source-to-source discrepancies. These items need further research/clarification before taken as "fact".

Discrepancies

-- Name Variations Duncan - Dunkin - Doncom
-- Families and Records seem to be co-mingled source-to-source. -- Possible son or brother of Robert m. Gallop

Fauquier County was established on May 1, 1759, from Prince William County. It is named for Francis Fauquier,[5] Lieutenant Governor of Virginia at the time, who won the land in a poker game, according to legend. Since Fauquier County was not in existance, Johns birthplace is incorrect. Born in Prince William County?

Further Research - TBD

-- Duncan-4842 | John (as son of 105) wife Wilkey

(Possible Merge to Duncan 100) Probable Merges if Robert & Gallop

There appears to be at least 3 different John Duncan's involved in the records (possibly 4; although likely that John I and IV may be the same individual, Neither should be attached to (Rev) William m. Rawley.

John I

John I Duncan Sr., b. bef. 1710, (1700-1725) m. bef. 1730, in Prince William/Fauquier Co. father of John II Duncan Jr. (m. Bradford). Wife Unknown. No Will located. Died about 1788. (No close relationship to Wm & Ruth Rawley) (Related to Marshall I; and the Duncan's of Robertson TN).

John II

John Duncan Jr., son of John I; birth: before 1730, (1725-1750); married before 1750 Dinah Bradford; death Harrison Co. KY. Had land in VA; Court records refer to him as John Jr.

John III

John Duncan (Jr.), b. bef. 1741 (1725-1750), m. bef. 1761 Elizabeth Holtzclaw; sold land to Joseph Duncan (wife Lydia) 1774. There are a lot of deeds from a John Duncan and Elizabeth - are they all the same John Duncan and Elizabeth??? (referred to as Jr - Father also John - Not related to John (m. Bradford) - possibly John of Prince William (m. Elizabeth) died 27 Aug. 1739 Pg.186-7)

John IV

John Duncan, b. ca 1730, (1700-1725) m. bef. 1765 Wilkey (MacClanahan, no proof on last name), d. 1793 (Proved) Fauquier Co. VA. (children John, Moses, Elias, Enoch, Willis, Milley, Lucinda Duncan) (Parents Robert and Gallop)

MARSHALL I (Prince William Co.);
John Duncan (Sr.) (of Randolph Co. NC,; father of Charles Duncan who m. Elizabeth (ALLRED))

  • MARSHALL I is definitely related to John Duncan (SR) of Fauquier Co. VA in 1769, (the father of John Duncan (II) who married Dinah Bradford) mutual ancestor Unknown, (but should be within 1-2 generations.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
