John Dunlap was born on August 21, 1747 in Stabane, Tyron, Ulster, Ireland.

AT ten years of age, he went to work as an apprentice to his uncle, William Dunlap, a printer and bookseller in Philadelphia.

In 1766, William Dunlap left the business in the care of his nephew and John eventually bought the business,

He was an Officer in the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry and bodyguard to George Washington.

He married Elizabeth Ellison on February 04, 1773 Together they had 1 known child:

This is my great x5 uncle his father is James Dunlap b1721 Strabane Ireland mother is Agnes Service b1725 d1780 he had brother named Robert, (my relationship) James, (John) a sister died 1800 married Robert Ruthaford a youngest brother name Gabriel.

John Ray Dunlap (1785-1856) is not the son of John Dunlap, the Printer & wife Elizabeth. There is a family connection, but not father-son.

I don't believe that this John Dunlap and Elizabeth (Ellison) Dunlap are the parents of John Ray Dunlap. When he died in 1812, John was survived by his wife and 5 daughters.

Sarah, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann and Charlotte.
