Biography

Samuel was born in 1705. He was the son of Samuel Dunn and Esther Martin.[1] He married to Esther Dunham b. 14 March 1720, daughter of Benajah Dunham and Dorothy Martin.[2] This relationship is proven by the 1738/9 Will of John Dunham who named his uncle Jonathon Dunham, brother Hezekiah, and brother-in-law Samuel Dunn, Jr., as executors.[3]

Samuel's residence in Somerset was mentioned in the will of his father dated the 4th of November 1744. This record mentioned he had children but only named one, daughter Rosanna. There are no found birth records for the children of Samuel and Esther after having left Piscataway. There are implied relationships found service records of his sons, marriages back in the Piscataway Church, and various probate record. The latter because Samuel likely outlived most of his children.

Samuel Dunn died intestate, at the age of 91, in Somerset, New Jersey in 1796. Administration over his estate was granted to Reuben Dunn, his likely son, who's fellow bondsmen were Richard McDonald and Francis Dunn, the latter his likely grandson. The value of his estate at the time of his death had been reduced to $171.66.
