James Dunn was born on 01 May 1720, in Wilmington, New Castle, Delaware. In 1746, in Delaware, James married Jean Farrell [1] The marriage was performed at the "Old Swedes Church" aka The Holy Trinity Church in Wilmington, New Castle, Delaware, [2] where their names were recorded as "James Donn" and "Jean Farrel." Children of James and Jean “Dun” as recorded in the Morgan's Chapel Register: [4]
James Dunn, Sr. died in 1801, in Pennsylvania. According to his Find A Grave memorial, his parents were Samuel Dunn and Ann Clark of Newport County, Rhode Island. [5]
Many online trees give James's parents as Ann (Clark) and Samuel Dunn of Newport County, Rhode Island. Absent any reliable original record or derivative record claiming primary information connecting James to Rhode Island or connecting Samuel and Ann to Delaware, these parents have been disconnected from this profile.
N.B. Samuel H. Dunn and Ann (Clarke) Dunn were detached as James's parents, per the comments of Barry Smith on 07 Nov 2018 (Patricia Prickett Hickin, 07 Nov 2018)
N.B. Apparently Hannah Bailey Dunn was added as James's mother, without any source. and has been detached. She was the mother of Samuel H. Dunn, who was earlier shown as James's father, prior to being detached, as noted in the previous paragraph. (Patricia Prickett Hickin, 15 Feb 2019)

Samuel and Ann Dunn did have a son born in 1720 -- listed in the town records of Newport, Rhode Island. Chapin excerpts a family bible that belonged to their son Samuel, and it names the son born 1720 James. So if the birth of James is recorded at Newport, Rhode Island, it seems very unlikely he was born in Delaware. It would also need explaining what he was doing in Delaware in 1746.
