Thomas Dunstone was born to Thomas Dunstone and Mary (Ivey) Dunstone and christened on 25 October 1783 in Rame, Cornwall, England.[1] He was the fifth of eleven children; an older brother Thomas was born in 1782 and died a young child.
Thomas became a fisherman, like his father before him - and, in fact, like most men in that area.
Thomas, Elizabeth, and their children are living in Back Street, Cawsand on the 1841 census,[3] although since the youngest, John, is 5 years old and his next brother is 14, perhaps he is a grandchild rather than a son?
The family is still at 32 Back Street, Cawsand on the 1851 census, with 67-year-old Thomas still working as a fisherman. All the children have left home, except Ann, who is described as having 'needlework' as an occupation.[4]
Age 77, Thomas has finally retired, but is described as a widower on the 1861 census. He is being looked after in Back Street, Cawsand by faithful daughter, Ann, who is now 36 and unmarried.[5]
