Biography

This profile is part of the Dutton Name Study.

Aminta "Minty" was born in 1788. She was the daughter of Abel Dutton and Eunice Unknown. She passed away in 1844 in Tippecanoe County, Indiana.[1]

Her name as Aminta does appear recorded in a probate index but 2 orphan court records and Abel Dutton's will refer to her as Minty.

Clement submitted an orphan court record on Minty's behalf as her "natural guardian" on 13 Feb 1812 [2], which indicates that he was still her guardian. At that time he was her brother-in-law as her sister Comfort did not die until 5 March 1813.[3]

Minty married Clement Simpson, the widower of her deceased sister, Comfort on 3 October 1813 in Kent, Delaware.[4][5]

Clement and Minty had 7 children: Thomas (b.1814), Emory Dutton Simpson (1815-1896), Comfort Simpson (1819-1891), Mary Simpson (1824-1892), Nelson Simpson (1826-1896), Amelia Simpson (1829-1909), and Nancy Simpson (1831-1832). Thomas and Emory were born in the Mispillion Hundred in Delaware while the rest of the children were born in Ohio.

Clement and Minty migrated from Delaware to Ohio in 1818, with Clement's brother, John. [6]

Clement died between 1830 and 1840.

Minty appears to be on the 1840 census in Wayne Township, Tippecanoe County, Indiana as "Mrs. Simpson"[7]. The evidence supporting that this is her:

  • Tick marks indicate that the head of household is a female 50-59, consistent with Minty's age.
  • Tick marks indicate 3 children: 1 male 10-14, 1 female 10-14, and 1 female 15-19. These ages correspond to Nelson, Amelia, and Mary, her youngest children.
  • Minty was buried in Tippecanoe county in 1844.
  • Census and marriage records indicate that Thomas, Emory, Comfort, and Mary lived in Wayne Township 1845 to 1850.
