At age 15 he was apprenticed to Eben Fuller, uncle of his wife Varille, a druggist in Augusta ME until he became of age when he opened a drug store in Waterville ME. 1872 he moved to Medfield MA and later to Hyde Park MA.

Hancock cnty deed 33-340 6 Apr 1812: William Dyer Jr and Anna his wife sold land to Benjamin Dyer and his wife Ruth of Vinalhaven ME.[9]
Possible sister to William was Margaret Dyer who married as his 1st wife Benjamin Eames/Ames, Benjamin born about 1774 and a brother of William Dyer's wife Anna Eames.[10]
