Biography

James Eakins Sr. born in the north of Ireland


James was a Scots-Irish weaver by trade. He met and married Rosannah also born in Ireland. She was born in 1788. They with other family members of his family came to America on the ship Ann whose Captain was Cpt. Alexander Howland, left Londonderry on June 8, 1811, arrived at New York40 days later, with 36 passengers of which were: JAMES EAKINS, ROSANNAH EAKINS, MARGARET EAKINS, MARGARET EAKINS JR. AND SARAH EAKINS. They settled outside the city limits of Philadelphia, PA. In 1823, James, his wife and one daughter and 3 sons moved to Cape Girardeau County, MO. All Eakins in this part of the County are direct descendants of this family.
