Biography

Caius (also listed as Cacius and Manius) was born in 1797[1][2][3].

Caius Marius Eaton married (1) Lucy Payne on 14 Feb 1825 in Lawrence Co., Illinois[4]. They had a large family including:

George Washington Eaton (1827-1827)
Mary Brocklebank Eaton (1828-1903)
Jane Livonia Eaton (1829-1830)
James Eaton (13 Nov 1832-29 Feb 1920)[5]
Margaret Ann Eaton (1833-1880)
John Montgomery Eaton (1835-1837)
Catherine Emma (1836-1899).

Lucy died 21 Mar 1839 in Lawrence, Illinois and is buried there.

Next, he married (2) Nancy Kennedy on 29 October 1837. They had one child:

Mathilda Ellen (Eaton) Shore.

Nancy died in Lawrence Co., Illinois in April of 1842.[6]

On 23 Aug 1842, he married (3) Susan Durkee.[7] She lived only two years, dying 10 Oct 1844. Their older son, Stephen was already gone, but Alonzo was only a couple of weeks old when his mother died.

On 14 Jun 1845, he married (4) Emily F. Turner[8]. Per the 1850 Federal Census, she is 17 years younger than her husband. He is listed as a carpenter[9]. In 1855, there were four members of his household. They were living in Lawrence Co., Illinois.[10] In the 1860 Census, he says that he's a mechanic[11]. Emily died 30 Nov 1862. They have two children:

Before 6 June 1870, the date of the 1870 Federal Census, he married (5) Mary Adaline (Travis) Baird. She was 41, he was 72.[12].

Caius passed away in 1876. It looks as though Mary Adaline outlived him. He is buried in the same cemetery as his wives and several of their children in Lawrenceville, Lawrence, Illinois.
