Biography
Samuel Edgcombe was born to John Edgcombe and Elizabeth (Scaggall) Edgcombe and christened on 16 January 1803 in West Alvington, Devon, England. [1] Samuel Edgcombe worked as an agricultural labourer, which is his description on the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881 censuses.
On 20 November 1832, Samuel married Avis Stumbles in East Stonehouse, Devon. [2] The couple moved back to South Milton, where Samuel was born, and together had six children: Elizabeth Ann 1833, Caroline 1835 (who died aged 2), George 1838, James 1839, Caroline 1843, and Emma 1845.
