Uriah Edgecomb Sr. was born on 24 March 1740/41, New Hartford, Litchfield County, Connecticut. He was baptized at New Hartford on 30 March 1741.
When Uriah's father died in 1772, he was named as one of the executors of the estate (New Hartford Probate Records, Farmington Probate District). Since Uriah is named as the eldest son, his older brother John was apparently dead at this time. On 04 May 1772, Uriah Edgecomb, and Daniel Curtis, entered into a bond agreement (1000 Pounds) with the probate court.
Uriah sold land to Peter Croner on 22 May 1785 and to Ozias Northaway on 25 April 1785. Uriah transferred land to his son John on 26 October 1794. None of the Edgecombs of the New Hartford-Simsbury area are listed in the 1790 Census for some reason, but Uriah is shown in Simsbury, Hartford County, Connecticut, in the Census of 1800 (page 476).
His will was dated 07 April 1807 and probated on 30 January 1810. He left one third of his real estate to his wife Amy and $17 to each of his children except Uriah Jr. (who was to receive the rest of the personal property and real estate). Uriah was no doubt a farmer, and he is presumed to have died at Canton Center, Connecticut, for in his will he is called "of Canton". It is not known if he served during the Revolutionary War.
