Biography

Arnljot Elgsæter was born i Børselv, Kistrand, Finmark, Norway 19 March 1944. His parents were Hilda Jensine Larsen (nurse and midwife, born 1 Dec 1914) and Konrad Elgsæter (school teacher, born 14 July 1905).

Arnljot Elgsæter grew up at Innsmøla on the Smøla island (3000 inhabitants) just off the coast of Trøndelag, Norway. He received his high school diploma in Steinkjer, Nord-Trøndelag, Norway 1960. He received his diploma in Applied Physics from the Norwegian Technical University (NTH/NTNU), Trondheim, Norway 1970. He received a Ph.D. in Biophysics at the University of California, Berkeley, USA 1974. From the fall of 1974 assistant professor at the Institute of biophysics at NTH/NTNU, Trondheim, Norway. A full professor from 1988. Retired April 2009.

Using mainly analytic tools available in GEDmatch a major effort was put into searching for the genetic origin of the North-Saamis. The reason for this interest was that his mother Hilda Larsen was 1/2 Kven and about 1/4 North-Saami. Results of this effort are summarized on the website [1]

Hi Arnljot,

Welcome to WikiTree! The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site you’ve ever used.

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? When you confirm your email address, you’ll have an opportunity to volunteer and tell us about your genealogical interests.

Once you volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and you’ll be on your way!

Welcome to the family! We’re really glad you’re here.
