Leo Elia, 69

Leo Elia lost his brave fight against melanoma cancer with his loving family embracing him on Nov. 5, 2007. Each day of his battle had its special laughs and tears as we celebrated his life with him, his sense of humor never letting us down. 

Leo Edward Elia, 69, of Port Orchard, passed away on November 5 at Harrison Hospital of Melanoma Cancer. He was born on January 19, 1938 to Leonard and Gertrude Elia in Portland OR. He married Sheila Marie Elia (Harris) in August 20, 1960 in Portland. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland in 1956 and Portland State University in 1960 with a degree in Bachelor of Science and Physics. He was a Sgt in the Air National Guard from 1955-1961. He was a Nuclear Physicist for 31 years at PSNS in Non Destructive Testing.

He was a member of Sons of Italy, Cataldo Lodge, Rolling Romans and Elks member. He enjoyed golf, softball, water and snow skiing and traveling the world with his lovely bride Sheila. His happy place was in the kitchen, his spaghetti and meatballs will be missed. He lived his last dream to move his bride of 47 years into their dream home. 

Leo is survived by his wife, Sheila Marie Elia of Port Orchard and son, Thomas & Vivian Elia of Puyallup; daughters, Anna Ryan, Connie & Shawn Boushie, and Kandi Riedel, all of Port Orchard; six grandchildren better known as Bopa to Justin Sura, Ashleigh Ryan, Maverick Ryan, Julia Elia, David Riedel, Rebekah Worpell; sister, Donna Elia of Salem, OR.; and traveling buddies and cousins, Mike and Gwen Daykin. Donations may be made to the Lance Armstrong Foundation at www.livestrong.org.

Visitation will be Sat. Nov. 10 at 1:00 p.m. with Funeral Services Following at 2:00 p.m. at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Reception to follow at the Bremerton VFW.
