    In the name of God Amen. I, James ellis, of the county of Kanawha and the state of Virginia being weak of body but of sound mind and memory doth hereby make and ordain this as my last Will and Testament that is to say first recommending my Soul to its maker and at my death desire my body may be buried in a Christian like manner at the descretion my Executors hereadter named. Ad as touching such worldly estate where with it hath pleased God to blefs me with in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner:
    Item 1- I give and bequeath unto Sabra Henry, my eldest daughter, thirty pounds lawful money of Virginia.
    Item 2 - I give and bequeath to my two eldest sons, Enos and James, the two Negro boys they now have in possession known by the names of Gilbert and Adams. Said Enos having heretofore same right made him of the Negro Gilbert.
    Item 3 - I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Polly Carmen, My negro girl named Judah.
    Item 4 - I give and bequeath unto daughter, Elizabeth McClung, my Negro boy name Cezar with or reserve that the said Elizabeth McClung pay to the estate on or before the expiration of one year after my decease the sum of thirty five pounds for the benefit of my eight youngest children.
    Item 5 - It is my will I desire that my three youngest sons, Elihee, Ahaz, and Alfred adter my decease, when my Executors shall think proper, be put to such trades as they may said Executors may think best and the balance of my children Chism, Hiram, Mitilda, Cynthia, and Parthenia to hold possession of the plantation whereon I now live as long as they remain single or until the youngest child, Parthenia, arrives at the age of eighteen years then it is my desire that the plantation with all my other estate both real or personal (except as heretofore particularly described) be sold by my Executors and the money arising from such sale be equally divided amongest my last mentioned eight children in manner following such of the children as may then be of lawful age shall receive their respective shares agreeable to such sale above mentioned and further as to the shares of my three youngest children: Elihee, Ahaz, and alfred it is my desire that their shares be put to interest and then to receive their respective share as they become of lawful age.
    Item 6 - It is my will that my negro woman, Nanny, be free at my decease and that she have with her freedom all the clothing that she has claim to.
    And I do hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friends and neighbors Richard Mcallerton and George Bently as Executors of this my Last will and Testament hereby revoking and annulling all former Wills and Testaments or bequests of any kind whatsoever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal this seventeenth day of September in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and Nine.
