Biography

Friederich Iffland was born in 1720, in New York. He was a son of the Palatine immigrants Johann David Ifflandt (Hunter Lists #341) and his second wife Maria/Mary.[1]

He must have migrated with his parents to New Jersey in the 1730s

He and his family lived in a farm across the Musconetcong River from the present town of New Hampton.

He married Anna Rosina Wooleben (Woolever), and they had the following children:

  1.  ?? Christopher [he is not named in Jones]
  2.  ?? John Charles [he is not named in Jones]
  3.  ?? George Frederick [he is not named in Jones]
  1. Friederich m Sarah De Cou (1785-1836). He was a Loyalist and moved to Canada. [NOTE: his profile is almost empty. Check Loyalist Records in Canada]
  2. Peter (1752-1836) , moved at close of the Revolution to Columbia County, PA. He married Rebeckah Ophelia Hendershot (1752- )
  3. Johannes b 3 Jan 1753 in Sussex, NJ., d 31 Mar 1837 He married Esther Van Buskirk
  4. Daniel b 1 Jul 1759 in Sussex, NJ, and moved to Columbia County, PA
  5. Sarah m Unknown Cramer
  6. Maria m Peter Petty (1759-1838)
  7. Jacob
  8. Samuel b. 30 Nov 1768 in Sussex, NJ. He married Jane Colsher and moved to Philadelphia, and died 21 Dec 1831

Research Notes

Note that at least one of the older children remained with the Loyalists and fled to Canada, while some of the younger children married American Revolutionary War veterans.

On Wikitree the profiles for the children are sparse, with no dates. They should be updated based on the list above, per the research of HZ Jones Jr and colleagues.

1740: Frederick married Anna Rosina Wooleben/Woolever.

1775: Fredrick was commissioner of roads of Hunterdon County in 1775.

Military: His name was spelled Fredrick Efling during the Rev. war. He was commissioned a Second Leutenant on June 6, 1777. (per a July 11, 1972 letter from George D. Eveland, Terrace Park, OH.) This same letter indicates that fifth generation, Peter, was born 1718, and moved to NC and was an early settler of Orange Co. He spelled his name Peter Efland.[2]

German spelling is Ifflandt. The children are named Eveland and Efflandt so both were used. His mother was Eveland and his father was Efflandt.
