Hans Evensen was born in 1791 in Saga u Ramstad, Fet, Akershus, Norway and was baptised on 25 December 1791 in Fet, Akershus.[1][2] He was the son of Even Larsen and Anne Olsdatter. Saga was a sub-farm under the main farm Ramstad.
On 10 October 1816, he married Anna Jensdatter in Fet, Akershus.[3][4]
Hans and Anna had one child:
His wife Anna Jensdatter passed away prior to 1842.
On 31 March 1842, at the age of 51, Hans married Kistine Hansdatter in Fet, Akershus.[5][6]
Hans and Kistine had seven children:
In the 1865 census of Norway, the family were living on Langbraaten farm (Langbraaten u Gran) in Fet, Akershus. Hans was a cottager and farmed a small plot of land there but had to pay unfair rent or work at the main farm. The family were poor and two of the children were fostered out as there were too many mouths to feed. Hans was recorded as owning two cows and grew 1/3 barrel of barley, 1 1/4 barrel oats and 3/4 barrel of potatoes; no fruit trees.[7]
Hans Evensen died on 12 April 1866 at Langbraaten u Gran, Fet, Akershus and was buried in Fet on 22 April. His burial record states that he was 75 at the time of his death and a "fattiglem" or pauper.[8]
Langbraaten was abandoned about 1870 and emigration from Fet to America, Australia and New Zealand started around 1872. Some remains of the Langbraaten building can still be seen.
The age of Hans on the 1865 census is incorrect. His first marriage may not be correct and needs investigating. His ancestral line may also not be correct and needs research.
