Edward Silverton Everett (1861-1952)

Born 20 July 1861., Woodhouse Twp, Norfolk County, Ontario

Emigrated to US in 1877 (per 1920 & 1930 Census), 1879 (1900 Census), or 1887 (1910 Census),

Edward married (1) 17 Sep 1881, St Louis, Gratiot, Michigan, to ANNA COLLIVER[1];

1891 Canada Census, Chatham, Ontario: Edward Everett (32), Head, born Ontario; Methodist, can read & write, Dwelling Uninhabited W 1/1, father born Ontario, mother Scotland. Jane Everett (60), Mother, Widowed, born Scotland, Methodist, can read & write, both parents born Scotland. [2]

1894 Michigan State Census, Bay: Edward Everett (32), born Canada. Anna Everett (33), born Michigan. Landy Everett (11), born Michigan. Butia Everett (6), born Michigan. Lillie Everett (5), born Michigan. Edna Everett (3), born Michigan. [3]

In early life Edward and Anna farmed at Montcalm County near McBride, and at Prairie Farm, Saginaw County. They then settled at Williams Twp, Bay County. Edward was also a water well driller, and for many years test drilled for coal, until 1907 when Anna died.

1900 US Census, 166 Williams, Bay, Michigan: born jul 1861, Canada; white, immigrated 1879, Farmer. Wife, Anna (39) , born Jan 1861, Michigan, no occupation. Children: Lundy (17); Alfred (14); Lille (11); Edna (8); Tressie (5). Also, Martha Coliver (77), Anna's mother

1904 Michigan State Census, Bay City, 32 years old, born Canada. With Anna (33); Landy (11); Butia (6); Lillie (5); Edna (3).[4]

In 1907, Edward married (2), to Dr. RACHEL "RAYE" SNYDER. [She graduated Cleveland Medical College, and may have been one of the first female practitioners in Bay County; homeopathic school]. She had a previous marriage to Dr. John P Snyder (1848-1922), Canadian; it lasted from May 1890 to a divorce in Feb 1906; no children. He in turn was previously married to Antoinette Blodgett (1847-1877) [2 0r 3 children].

1910 US Census, E Midland St, Ward 8, Bay, Michigan: head, immigrated 1887, Coal Mine Prospector, "own account", rent home, naturalization papers, married 3 years. Wife, Ray D Everett (45), Physician

1920 US Census, 208 North Celson Street, Ward 8, Bay, Michigan: "Edmond S Cornett", immigrated 1877, father born Pennsylvania, Grocerier salesman (employee), naturalized. "Roye S Cornett", listed as Head, female, married, Doctor, owns home.

1930 US Census, 210 Chilson Ave, Bay City, Michigan. they owned their home (valued 6000); they did not own a radio set, naturalized. Wife, "Raye" was 65, Physician.

1931 Bay City, Michigan City Directory: Edward S Everett, 208 N Chilson Av, also Raye S.[5]

His wife, Rachel "Raye", died 9 March 1935, Bay City, Michigan.

1940 US Federal Census, Bay City, Michigan: Edward Everette (80), Lodger, born Canada English, Naturalized, did not work, other income sources. Middleton Martin 61), Head, born Michigan, Clerical, rented home ($25), Highest grade 2nd yr High School, wage earner, worked 40 hrs/wk, worked 26 wks in 1939, income $1000. Maud Martin (62), wife to Head, born Michigan, parents born New York, 22 at first marriage, 1 child, 8th grade, did not work, no other income source, Housewife.

In later years Edward was a dealer in Rawleigh goods (ointments, salves, home remedies), and sold door-to-door in an era when farm families could not easily get to town. He enjoyed driving his wife to her house calls in his Briscoe automobile.

Edward died on 1 August 1952, Hampton Twp, Bay, Michigan, at the Bay County Infirmary, 207 S Walnut Street. Widowed, born 7/20/1861, 91 years; retired farmer; son of Peter Everett & Mary Yeager. Cause: Gastic Hemorrhage, also Bowel Hemorrhge; Senility.[6]

He was buried, 4 Aug 1952, alongside both his wives in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Bay City, Michigan.
