George was baptised 11 January 1835 in Berkeley^[1].

Left an orphan when a baby. (Adopted by Sturge family?) Married at Ballarat, Australia. Their children were all born in Ballarat. Business was supplying pit props to the gold mines. Said to be a Quaker. His son Percy was believed to be on the board of Friends Provident, originally a Quaker company.
