David married Marth Sauer on the 2nd of October, 1903 in Margaretville, New York. [2]
In 1905, David (21) was a day laborer living with his wife Martha, and his children Arthur 1, and Alene 1.
In 1910, David (26) was a "general farmer" in Hardenburgh, New York. Living with him were his wife Martha and children Arthur 6, Alene 6, Donald 4, Dorothy 4, Claude 2, Clarence 2, and Herman 10/12. [3]
Edna Pelham and David Lyon Fairbairn were married on the 17th of May, 1915 in Fleishmanns, New York. [4]
By the 1915 New York Census, David (30) was now married to Edna Pelham (19) and still living in Hardenbergh. Martha died in 1912 and no children are listed as living with David. It is unknown where they were at this time. David's occupation is listed as Superintendent and Edna's is Housework. [5]
David's WWI era draft card, dated Sept. 12, 1918 notes that he is a farmer for A J Drexel Jr. on Seager (Rd.?) in Hardenburg, Ulster, New York. It notes that he is of Medium height, Medium build, with light blue eyes and dark brown hair. Edna is listed as his nearest relative. [6]
In 1920, David was a farm foreman on Drybrook Rd in the Town of Hardenburgh, New York. Living with with were his wife Edna 25, Arthur 15, Donald 13, Dorothy 13, Claude 11, Clarence 11, Herman 10, David 2, and Richard 1. [7]
By 1925 David (40) and Edna (28) had moved to a farm along a state highway in Shandaken. The children were all living with them: Arthur 21 Building Laborer, Donald 19 Farm Laborer, Dorothy 19 Hotel worker, Claude 17 Farm Laborer, Clarence 17 Farm Laborer, Herman 16 Farm Laborer, George 14 School, David L 9 School, Richard N 6 School, Altanah 3, Mary 238 days. David's 1942 WWII Draft Card notes that he is living in Highmount, Ulster, New York and confirms his place of birth as Seagar. David lists himself as his employer and Clair Haynes of Highmount, New York as the person who will always know his address. [9]
