Biography

1776 Project
Soldier William Fenstermacher served with Northampton County Militia, Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.

William Fenstermacher is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A039067.
William John Fenstermaker was born on 11 Oct 1740 in Longswamp, Berks, Pennsylvania, USA as the third child of Johann Jacob Fenstermacher and Margaretta Schweig.[1][2] He had eight siblings, namely: Andrew, Anna Maria, Christian, Jacob, Joseph, Anna Barbara, Johannes, and Dewald David. He died on 27 Nov 1801 in Heidelberg, Lehigh, Pennsylvania, USA.[2] When he was 21, he married Margaretha Elisabeth Bloss about 1762 in Pennsylvania, USA.[2]
He settled in Heidelberg Township, Pennsylvania, USA about 1770 and purchased 170 acres where he operated a distillery.[3] He was buried in the Old Heidelberg Cemetery, but there is no longer an original marker of his grave site.[4]
William John Fenstermaker and Margaretha Elisabeth Bloss had the following children:
  1. Anna Catherina Fenstermacher was born between 1763–1765 in Longswamp, Berks, Pennsylvania, USA. She died about 1765.
  2. Philip Fenstermacher was born on 06 Oct 1771 in Heidelberg Twp., Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania, USA. He died on 31 Dec 1829 in Nescopeck Twp., Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, USA. He married Maria Gertrude Harter on 15 Oct 1793.
  3. J George Fenstermacher Sr was born on 18 Jan 1773 in Heidelberg, Lehigh, Pennsylvania, USA. He died on 02 Aug 1835 in Fairfield County, Ohio, USA. He married Elisabeth Harter on 30 Aug 1796 in Heidelberg, Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania, USA.
  4. William Fenstermacher II was born on 22 Mar 1775 in Heidelberg, Lehigh, Pennsylvania, USA. He died on 19 Aug 1850 in Heidelberg, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, USA. He married Magdalena Bloss on 02 Jan 1798.

Military

During the early days of the Revolutionary War, in 1778, William John was a member of Captain Conrad Roeder's 5th Company of the 3rd Battalion. In 1780 he was under the same Captain in the 2nd Class, 5th Company, 6th Battalion of the Northampton County Militia.[2][3]
