Biography

Jessy was born about 1815. She was baptised at St John the Baptist, Penistone, Yorkshire on 7 Jun 1815.^[1]

On 16 July 1839 she married James Douglas de Wend, at Stamford, Lincolnshire.^[2] They had the following children:

• William Fenton de Wend, age 10 in the 1851 census, born in about 1841 off the Cape of Good Hope^[3]
• Mary Emma, baptised at Cawnpore, Bengal on 6 March 1842^[4] and buried there on 17 March 1842.^[5]
• Douglas Campbell, baptised at Nottingham, Nottinghamshire on 17 January 1844^[6]
• Jessy, baptised at Chester Cathedral, Chester, Cheshire on 8 May 1846^[7]
• Ida Sophia, baptised at Chester Cathedral on 11 October 1847^[8]
• Mary Adelaide Louisa, whose birth was registered at Northampton, Northamptonshire in the first quarter of 1850^[9]
• Emily, whose birth was registered at Northampton, Northamptonshire in the fourth quarter of 1852^[10]
• Frances Cayley, whose birth was registered at Northampton, Northamptonshire in the fourth quarter of 1852^[11]

The 1861 census records Jessy in the household of her sister Charlotte at Stamford, Lincolnshire, with her age as 45 and her marital status as widowed. Children: Jessy, 14, born Chester; Ida J, 13, born Chester; Frances C, 8, born Northampton' Emily J,8, born Northampton.^[12]

The 1871 census lists Jessy at Edinburgh, Scotland, age 55, widowed, born England. Children: Jessey, 24; Ida Sophia, 23; Frances C, 18.^[13]

The 1881 census lists Jessy, age 65, widowed, at Hunshelf, Yorkshire.^[14] The 1891 census lists her there, age 75, with her daughter Ida, 43, single.^[15]

She passed away in 1897.
