“Anderson Fields was the ancestor of a large branch of the Fields family of Northeastern Kentucky. The weight of authority and family tradition is that he was born in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1795; m. Elizabeth Manis in that State about 1818; went to East Tennessee where a majority of his children were born; and came to Carter County, Kentucky, about 1840." Excerpted from the book "Early Families of Eastern and Southeastern Kentucky" by William Carlos Kozee. Anderson was also the father of the children of Cassandra Banks, Martha Jane, William Henry, Lansford and John Riley Banks, each of whom was born in Letcher County, Kentucky. Research

Both here and on Find-a-Grave, more than one person has stated matter-of-factly that Anderson Fields was the father of Cassandra Banks' children because it is documented by Lansford Banks in his affidavit filed with his Civil War Pension Application written August 30, 1881. DNA testing also has (also) documented the connection. Help me Barney Banks out here. I would love to see some of this sourcing. I have in my possession over 100 pages directly related to Lansford's Civil War Pension. No where in this stack can I find a reference to anyone named Fields. What he clearly states is that his mother was unmarried. Lived with his father for about three years, and had 4 children. Then, states, she never married. I have been trying to make some sort of DNA connection to anyone named Fields for years and can't. Would someone/anyone share with me any info on where his relationship to Cassandra is documented? Also, information on DNA connections would be appreciated as well. I can be contacted at brbanks AT yahoo.com.

If it is true that he fathered the children of Cassandra Banks, then one of them had to travel about 150 miles (over 40 hours walking time) to cohabitate between 1834 and 1847 (birth years of her children). As stated by Lansford, my Mother lived with "him" for about three years. They may not have been consecutive years.

Please don't take any of my comments as being argumentative here, I just want to work out these details and figure out the parentage of my great grandmother, Jennie Banks.

James was born in 1795. He passed away in 1878. [4]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

Whitaker-4894 and Whittaker-2527 do not represent the same person because: I cannot approve a merge for my 4th great-grandfather Joseph Whittaker because my decades of research have 1)never found a middle name or initial listed for him (including government and war records) so I cannot agree that Joseph Musgrave Whittaker is the same man that is my ancestor. 2) There are indications that my ancestor Joseph Whitaker's parents were Charles Jones Whitaker and Rose Ann Judah including DNA matches that they were his parents. Some researchers have Joseph Musgraves Whitaker's father as Charles Jones Whitaker but his mother is different than Rose Ann Judah. 3) Several researchers have Joseph Musgraves Whitaker born in England and died in Berks County, Pennsylvania and I have proof my ancestor was in Virginia. 4) Several researchers have Joseph Musgrave Whitakerchristened on 30 Dec 1866 in England - not only 28 years after my ancestor's death and in England although I have proof that my ancestor died before May 14, 1838, in Wythe County, Virginia. 5) Several researchers have Joseph Musgraves Whitaker married to 4-5 different women (one of whom was my 4th great-grandmother) and I can prove my ancestor married twice; first to Camilla Atkins who died within a year of the marriage and second, to Obedience Perdue in 1777. 6) My ancestor, Joseph Whitaker, who married Obedience Perdue, left a Will (Probated May 14 1838 which means he died before that date) in Wythe County, Virginia (the place he died) and that Will names his children and some of his grandchildren. The list of children of Joseph Musgrave Whitaker does not match the list of Joseph Whitaker of Wythe County. I could continue with other differences but I conclude with these six reasons why I refuse to merge. I do not agree that Joseph Whitaker and Joseph Musgrave Whitaker are the same because I believe them to be two different men whose descendants have mixed (merged) their histories together.
It appears the wrong parents are listed for James (Fields-3231). As it stands now he was born after both of his parents were deceased. I believe his parents should be Hiram Lansford Fields (Fields-1454 or Fields-9 ... more duplicates) and Frances Ann Mays (Mays-761). James needs to be removed as child of Hiram Joseph Fields and Mary Elisabeth Terrell before merge of Fields-3231 and Fields-202, not doing so will compound problems/issues created by the merge.

Fields-3231 and Fields-202 appear to represent the same person because: Fields-3231 and Fields-202 appear to be the same person. Profile Fields-3231 relates to James Anderson Fields and his wife Elizabeth Maness and their children while Fields-202 is related to James Anderson Fields and his children by Cassandra Banks whom he never married.

Fields-4315 and Fields-3231 appear to represent the same person because: Hi Nita,

I was tracing the ancestry of Governor Fields of Kentucky, who I suspected might be a relative of my own Fields family, and sure enough it led me back to the profile of a Fields in my family tree (and yours as well I gather) who already exists with a lot more names and data than the one I just created.

So please merge them if you don't mind, thanks!
