Biography

The daughter of John T. "Jack" Findley & Martha Ellen Raburn, Ida married about 1882 to Andrew J. McCreary, who in his attempt to research Ida's Findley family history published articles of his findings based largely on suppositions he made from the few records he located, resulting in the propagation of misinformation across the Findley family. For example, his work states Ida's grandfather Magilbry Findley served in the War of 1812 with Andrew Jackson and it was his trekk across AL from SC to LA that resulted in Magilbry's desire to move to Alabama, when in fact while Magilbry did indeed serve in the War of 1812, had McCreary obtained his military records he would have seen that this presumption was an impossibility as Magilbry served his entire term in the War in Charleston, SC protecting that harbor town. He never met Jackson, much less served under him! LOL McCreary's work also contains errors in regards to Magilbry's children as he confuses several such as Celia (Findley) Franklin with her sister-in-law Gillianne (Steeley) Findley. Much of this erroneous information has been, unfortunately, preserved and passed along in the itself, little researched work by Annie Waters on the history of Escambia County, Alabama.

Ida is buried in Brooklyn Baptist Church Cemetery in Brooklyn, Alabama. [1]
