Biography

Euphemia was born on 28 Oct 1896 at Burnhead Road, Stenhousemuir in the parish of Larbert, Scotland.[1] Her parents were Alexander FINLAYSON, a Blacksmith, and Isabella FINLAYSON (née HENDERSON).[1]

On 2 Apr 1911, age 14, she lived with her brother Alex (Tinsmith, age 27) and his wife Alexandrina on Victoria Road, Larbert, Stirlingshire, Scotland.[2] Also present in the household was her sister Agnes (Typist, 19).[2]

On 7 Oct 1911, she sailed with her sister Agnes on the SS Cameronia from Glasgow bound for New York.[3] Also traveling in the same party were Euphemia Finlayson (the wife of their cousin David) and her daughter, also called Euphemia.[3]

On the night of the 1920 U.S. Census, she was living with her sister Jean and brother-in-law Ernest RICE in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, USA.[4] At the time she was working as a Stenographer in a department store.[4] She had immigrated to the U.S. in 1911.[4]

On 24 Sep 1924, she married widower Ernest John SEYMOUR in Manhattan, New York, USA.[5]

In 1940, Effie (age 43) lived with her husband Ernest (54) and their son Richard (14) in their home at 75 Forest Avenue, Glen Cove City, Nassau, Long Island, New York, USA.[6] The house was owned by the family and worth $10,000. Ernest was the proprietor of a stationery business.

In 1950, Effie (age 53) lived with her husband Ernest (64) and their son Richard (24) in their home at 118 Forest Avenue, Glen Cove City, Nassau, Long Island, New York, USA.[7] Ernest was working 40 hours a week as a Technician in his own Photo Engraving business.

On 3 Jan 1953, age 53, she died in her home at Glen Cove, Long Island, New York, USA.[8][9][10][11]

Euphemia is listed on her husband Ernest's headstone in St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Glen Cove.[12] Ernest passed away just under seven months after Euphemia.
