Per the Fish genealogy, Silas Fish was a merchant in New York City for many years. The census records illustrate that he dealt in ship stores, with a shipping house. He was also a ship joiner per the 1880 record. The last record states that he was a merchant in lumber.
Necrology
Silas Fish died 8 Nov 1906 at Mystic, Connecticut. His grave is in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic, New London County, Connecticut, USA [10], next to that of his wife. The inscription on his stone reads:
THE UPRIGHT SHALL DWELL IN THY PRESENCE

Identity of Silas's wife Mary is uncertain. Some records give her surname at marriage as Stoddard, others Dorrance, which appears on her grave marker. The online FamilySearch app links her to parents Ann Olney (Warner) and George Dorrance, which seems to be based on a typewritten copy of a bible reference which is depicted in the F-A-G site for George Dorrance [11].
