Biography

Gerald FitzGerald was born on 28 December 1559 the son of Gerald FitzGerald 1st/11th Earl of Kildare (The Wizard Earl") and Mabel Browne. He was styled as Lord Garratt Fitzgerald, ^[1]

He married Catherine Knollys, daughter of Sir Francis Knollys, Treasurer ofthe household to Queen Elizabeth Ist. and wife Katherine Carey, in October 1578

He died in June 1580 at age 20 (before his father) and was buried on 30 June in the Abbey of St, Alban's, Hertfordshire ^[1]

His widow (d 1632) then married Sir Philip Butler (Botelier) of Watton-Woodhall. She held the Manors of Portlester in Meath and of Athy and Woodstock in Kildare as her dower. ^{[1] [2]}
