Thomas arrived in Pennsylvania aboard the ship Welcome in 1682 with his sons, George and Thomas. His wife, Mary, and two of his four children, Mary and Josiah, had died of smallpox during the voyage. [2][3]
Thomas and Elisabeth Palmer announced the marriage intention a second time on 3 June 1684 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and were left at liberty to accomplish the marriage.[5]
He married his second wife, widow Elizabeth (Coates) Palmer at the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting in 1684.[6]
Thomas was in a family history in Pennsylvania.[7]
Excerpts from Michael Tepper's "New World Immigrants", Vol 1 via ancestry.com [2]
"Thomas Fitzwater and family (23-28) were from Kingston-on-Thames near London. He is named in the London port book as lading goods on the Welcome on July 27 and is also on the Pemberton list as a Welcome passenger. He went to Bucks County with his sons Thomas and George, but his wife, Mary, and two children, Josiah and Mary, died on the voyage. He brought a servant with him whose name was John Ottey, though Pemberton's writing has been read various ways, including the "John Hey" given by Armstrong. Fitzwater married again in 1684 but his second wife, Elizabeth Palmer, created a scandal among the Friends (of Welcome?) by leaving him; nor could several committees from the Meeting argue her into returning. Fitzwater died in 1699 (Battle, p. 679; "Minutes of the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting for 1696", in Publications of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, IV (Philadelphia, 1909), 209 et passim." .....
pg 304 - New World Immigrants - Welcome Notes - "The will of Thomas Fitzwater, who died 6 Oct. 1699, is undated but was probated 2 Nov. 1699 [Pub's of the Gen'l Society of Penn'a 3:33]. It mentions only sons Thomas and George and daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Palmer) Jackson (aka step-daughter). His second wife (Elizabeth Palmer) had either died or the separation had become permanent."
Thomas died on 1 October 1699 and was buried in Dresher, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States.[8]
