Obituary

Spokane -- Emma Wanita Cargile, a former resident of Orofino and Clarkston, died of causes related to age Tuesday at The Gardens, a care facility in Spokane. She was 86.
She was born June 1, 1911, to Clarence and Myrtle Staley Flaharty in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
She married Arthur Raymond Cargile in 1927 in Colorado. They lived on various ranches where he was a foreman and sometimes rodeo rider and she was a homemaker and ranch cook. The family moved to Orofino in 1947.
In 1958, following her husband's heart attack, she became a custodian at the state hospital in Orofino and also received her general equivalency diploma.
Following the death of her son, Arthur V. (Butch) Cargile, she helped raise many of her grandchildren over a period of years.
The family moved to Clarkston in 1970. She moved to Spokane to live with her son, Lonnie, 12 years ago and recently moved to The Gardens.
She attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Orofino and Clarkston. Her hobbies included crafts, crocheting, gardening and flowers and her family.
Her survivors include two sons, Lonnie L. Cargile and Larry R. Cargile, both of Spokane; two daughters, Emily J. Potter and Drusilla M. Knopes, both of Clarkston; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her son, she was preceded in death by her husband on July 19, 1982, and eight brothers and sisters.
At her request, cremation has taken place and her ashes will be buried with her husband's in Colorado. There will be no local service.
