Leonard William Fleming was born April 8, 1913 in Witchita, Sedgewick, Kansas. He was a son of Earl LaSalle Fleming and Rena Mazella Addington.[1][2][3]
After WWI there were no jobs at the time. Leonard went to work in a CC camp as a young man, he was a cook at the time. He worked in the park in Washington where he was placed.
Leonard married Deloris Mae Johnson on April 21, 1934 in Hutchinson, Reno, Kansas, United States. Together they had three children:[4]
In 1942 the family came out to California. The whole back seat was piled high to the top of the car and the kids laid on top of it to sleep. Everything they owned was packed in the car. There was a radiator strapped to the front of the engine with a bag hung full of water to keep the water cool for drinking. The family drove right through the big full blown dust bowl. Houses were buried in sand and windows and doors were covered. The family lived in a rented trailer for a period of time then later bought a home in Bel Gardens in a large property. It was an old chicken house that was converted into home. The bathroom was located outside on the porch.
When he came out to California Leonard learned how to weld and worked at the shipyards and worked as a welder for Northrup and Douglas Aircraft.
Leonard and his siblings later bought the property for his parents, but they only lived there for a short time before he sold it and left. Leonard and his family moved to Inglewood and bought a home there.
Leonard and Deloris divorced September 1966 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.[5]
He married Elsie Anna Marcum on November 25, 1966 in Carson City, Nevada, United States.
Leonard William Fleming died December 20, 1969 in Compton, Los Angeles, California, United States.[6][7] He was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, Orange, California, United States.[8]
