Biography

Ron Floyd is a Military Veteran.
Served in the United States Marine Corps 1966-1968
Sgt. Infantry, WIA in Vietnam
Scottish flag
Ron Floyd has Scottish Ancestors.
Welsh flag
Ron Floyd has Welsh ancestors.

In my research, I have found relatives in all sections of the country. They are descendants of princes to paupers; poets to politicians; plantation owners to pickers; pilgrims to pioneers; preachers to professors; postman to post office wanted posters; Presbyterians to Pentecostals; privates to physicians, every military rank, serving in every war we have fought. Nothing surprises me anymore. What other family has a signer of the Declaration of Independence, William Floyd (NY), and an FBI Most Wanted, Charles Arthur “Pretty Boy” Floyd (GA/OK). Suffice to say in the almost 400 hundred years from 1623 (first documented American arrival) till now, we are about as American as you can get!

Hi Ron

This is the time for the annual check in with members of the Military and War Project for 2024. Have you been active during the last six months in the Military and War Project? Note that it is a requirement to respond to the Military and War Project Check-ins. Please respond to this message by clicking the reply button below this message, to post your answer. I look forward to hearing from you..

Many thanks,

Mary, Project Coordinator, Military & War

I just finished looking at one of your recent profiles, therefore I think I see the answer... You are active. I just need your confirmation.

Mary,

I have continued to add a =Militrary= section (in every profile that warrants) that I come across in my profiles that I manage and monitor; at least several hundred added this year.

I have participated in every monthly Civil War Challenge and have designed the challenges (Battle of Shilo and Pick Your Battle) that Pam used to set up two of the Monthly Challenge. She has been super to work with me and always a big help.

In addition and with your guidance, have begun the Viet Nam War sub project for the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment to create profiles for every member of the unit that died in the war. There were 566 deaths that are recorded in several sources. As of today, I have created 87 new profiles and updated 3 profiles that already existed. With this work as a basis. I will complete the Free Space Page for the project with outline, objective/goals, progress updates and ideas for future work to continue connections to the tree. As you know, this is a personal project for me as this is the unit I served with in Viet Nam. As the project matures, I will seek additional help from Wikitree members to provide connections and possibly add the 2nd and 3rd Battalions of the Regiment. I currently expect to have the 566 profiles created by June of this year (God willing and the creeks don't rise)!

Thank you for your support, guidance and work.

Also, you might want to make a table for the names you have and will create for that Marine group. This is a space page created by 2 women. I set it up... Just look at the table there.https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Memories_of_Men_of_Vietnam

Hi Floyd, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and New Years. Thank you so much for all you do for the Challenges, we have again completed a challenge adding more then 800 soldiers to the Andersonville National Cemetery.
Ron Floyd created profiles in December 2023 US Civil War Project Andersonville National Cemetery W Surnames Challenge.

The US Civil War January Challenge is to connect US Civil War Soldiers for the January Connect-a-Thon. This year will be a twist of what I usually do. Instead of you choosing a "Surname Letter", you will be choosing from a block of soldiers whom I've already screened that show they have family to connect. Each soldier has a connection to one or more of his immediate family--parents, siblings, spouses, children, on their profile. Whether you work on one soldier or your whole block of soldiers, it's one step closer in our goal to connect each of our US Civil War Soldiers. The goal is to make sure all these soldiers are connected at least by one or two degrees. You can sign up now by clicking this link: US Civil War Sign-up Chart

Hey hun,

Registration begins soon for the January thon. I will be reminding you when it is time to register, but I have some news that will be helpful when that time comes. I have been told that we will be trying a new registration system. When you go in to register, it will not be just making a comment as in the past. The new system will have sections for each team. You will just find the Legacy Heirs one and post to that one.

A couple of months ago I asked you to look into the reason that my grandfather William Monroe Knox (1882-1940) was not listed as a sibling of Sara (knox) Wray and son of James Monroe Knox and Melissa Morrison. I have not yet received a reply. I have proof that he should be added, do you have proof that he shouldn't? I was very young when we attended the cousin's reunion in Rogers Arkansas but I do remember some of the names. Also, I question the parents of James Knox (1818-?) married to Rachel Little. You list James Knox and Betsy Ellis Jolley . Yes they had a son, James, but he was born in 1843 and was married to a Jenira McClaren (sp?) My DNA results show that you and I are cousins and I have other cousins that link me to Joseph Jackson Knox {who I believe is the father of James Knox (1818-?) Please let me know of any additional information you may have.

Hey Ron,

A large number of exact duplicate US Civil War profiles popped up this week's DBE 585 report. Many were created by you or appear to be in collaboration with Norman Jones. Unfortunately they've all been orphaned so I can't propose a merge on them to alert you two the usual way, otherwise it'd make me manually merge them all by hand myself.

Could you take a look at these first 21 profiles I came across and merge the duplicates with Norman? (Let me know if I typo'd any of these IDs.) I'll let you know if I find additional ones.
