Biography

Burial St Peter, New Iberia, Iberia, LA

Notes

Death record from Bourseville gives a burial date of 25 Dec 1743; witnessed by Toussaint Boutte. This is likely her death record, but not conclusive. Conflicting information of unknown validity states that she died in Louisiana and was buried in "St Peter, New Iberia, Iberia, LA" ; Evangeline's Cousins cites "Information received from Robert Bernadas Patout (1940-), Enterprize [sic] Plantation, Jeanerette, LA. April 1995" for this information. However, this statement is also paired with a death date that would have made her 177 years old at date of death, calling into question the information more generally.

Do we have anything that clarifies whether Jeanne went with her son Andre Claude to America, and is actually buried in New Iberia? Because there is a Jeanne Ferte who died and was buried in Bourseville in 1743[1], and the age on the record (~55) matches up with the age on the marriage record of the Jeanne Frete who married Claude Boutte. Unfortunately, the death record doesn't clarify any relations (no "Widow of the late Claude Boutte"). I haven't done enough research to know how many women named Jeanne Frete were in Bourseville at the time - I'm guessing not many. And I would imagine the Toussaint Boutte that witnessed her burial is the same Toussaint who was her late husband's brother.
