In HISTORY
We can trace our lineage through my father's mother, back to her grandmother who was Mary Jane Washburn and back through her Upham ancestors to Mary Jane's 5X great grandfather, Phineas Upham. Lieutenant Phineas Upham fought in King Philip's War in the late 1670's. For more information, please see King Philip's War
My sister, Andie Fortenberry Criminger has been working in our family's genealogy since the 1970's. Along with the work and encouragement of our parents, Andie authored our family book, "The Fortenberry Families of Southern Mississippi" which was published in 1984. Since that time, Andie has worked (off and on) as researcher, author and editor of her web page about our family, tracing our roots, writing the stories of individual family members as well as groups of our family, their places in history, their accomplishments and our DNA connections to them! Andie's tremendous research, her documented findings, her historical narratives about our families.... is nothing short of amazing!
Andie's most current research may be found here:
We have several direct family connections that would qualify for Colonial Dames, but have not gathered documentation. Lieut. Phineas Upham would qualify.
For the Revolutionary War, we have a number of family members who fought in that war.
Our William Jasper Fortenberry was a veteran of the War of 1812 (from South Carolina). Our Willis Simmons was a veteran of the War of 1812 (from Mississippi). Our 3X great grandfather, Asa Washburn, Jr., was a veteran of the War of 1812 (from Vermont).
Our Burrell T. Fortenberry was a veteran of and died from exposure during the Civil War.
Qualify for Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors (Dad was aboard the USS Helena, his cousin was aboard the USS Arizona).
My oldest daughter continues the military tradition, serving 12 years as a Marine and deployed twice to the Middle East.
---Continuing the military legacy is this daughter's son who is now a proud Marine! 8/2018
BACKGROUND
My Mom, Dad and sister, Andie, wrote the book "The Fortenberry Families of Southern Mississippi". Published in 1984.
I sometimes write for my sister's blog page: fortenberry.wordpress.com If you are a Fortenberry... or a cousin with roots in southern Mississippi, you may find some family related answers there!
DNA
My brother has had his DNA tested and the results are that our Fortenberry DNA matches ..... MATCHES.... others from Faulkenberry, Falkenburg.... and straight back to Van Valkenburgh and it's various spellings. TWO sisters have had their DNA tested. We all match as siblings, but the curious results of our own specific blend of our parents DNA has lead to some very interesting discussions!!
Now on GEDmatch (10/2017)
FAVORITE QUOTE FROM THE MOVIE "LAKE PLACID"
Oliver Platt turns to Brendon Gleeson and says "They conceal information like that in books".
And in GENEALOGY... they DO. If you don't take the time to give up the internet search and start looking through books that are APPROPRIATE for your research, then you might miss that one little sentence, one little clue that might send you in the right direction for knocking down that "brick wall" and finding your ancestors. Scores of books have never been scanned into digital format. You should try to make the time to just open the pages and read.

Thanks for the reminder!! I WOULD like to stay with the Military and War Project for this upcoming year if that is alright. I have lately been working in a few ancestor's profiles that need cleaning up.... Kennington and Narramore.... both families are very important to our family history! AND I DO have a question about one war "sideline" that needs to be explained to me. How are the Regulators treated in the Military and War Project? I am working on identifying some of my ancestors who were Regulators (my sister is the "wiz-kid" on that). Do we have a sticker? I DO SEE the Regulator FreeSpace page and would like to know IF that is considered part of the Military and War Project. Thanks for all the work you are doing with WikiTree.... IT IS MUCH APPRECIATED!!!! Teresa Fortenberry

For the last several months, the Poland Project has been undergoing new organization with new volunteers. We are excited about how the project can enhance Wikitree!
We have several different task teams that need volunteers. Please take a look at this page to see which one interests you: Volunteer Tasks. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Poland_Project_Toolbox Once you have decided which task team you would like to work on, please reply to this comment.
The only requirements for ongoing membership in the Poland Project are that you join a team and respond to the periodic check-ins from the Project Leaders/Coordinators. We recognize that people lead busy lives and are grateful for any and all contributions you can make.
Once you have joined a team, please join the Poland Project Google Group to receive project updates and participate in project and team discussions. You can also follow Project news via the tags 'Poland_Europe' or 'Polish_Roots' or 'Polska' on G2G.
If we don’t hear from you in the next 45 days, your membership badge will be removed. In this case please don't be offended as you're welcome to rejoin at any time. Please also note, that in order to receive help researching your Polish ancestors, membership is not mandatory. Just ask your questions in the G2G forum and tag them with 'Poland_Europe' or 'Polska' in order for our knowledgeable researchers to see them.

Thank you for replying to the Great War Project July 2022 check in (subproject of the Military and War Project). I have marked you as willing to be active.
You were unsure who added your badge. The badge is on your page. It was awarded in Feb 2018 by Jacqueline Clark with a remark that she just found your message to her.
Regarding you are willing to work on Great War profiles, that would be great for the project.
Mary, Project Coordinator, Military and War Project
It is time for a July 2022 check in for the Great War Project. I am sending this message on the behalf of the leader of the Military and War Project. Have you been active in the Great War project in the last six months?

Thanks,

I am not really sure who added "Great War Project" to my "requested" projects.... but I did not. I DO NOT mind being a part of the project, however, if you need people to work on profiles which qualify, I do not mind remaining a part of the group. I have access to ancestry as well as fold3 (even before it became a part of ancestry).
Thanks for the notice! Hope you are all well...... Teresa

I have not been as active in any project or profile page as I would like to be. Hoping that will change. I WILL be working on Falkenberg-55 which is the profile of Hendrick Jacobs Falkenberg (Falkenburg) who was an Indian interpreter in about the 1670's. My sister is in the process of posting an extensive "research" paper about the evolution of the name Van Valkenburg-to-Falkenburg which will include a bit about Hendrick Falkenberg. There is another paper Andie posted to her blog page specifically about the Falkenburg to Fortenberry families..... which we will work on for both WikiTree AND WikiPedia as soon as she has time. .... I sure do miss Allan!
Teresa
Teresa I miss Allan an awful lot... We had talked/wrote so frequently.

It took me a while, but here is his profile, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Thomas-8856

Thank you (once again), for the kind words!
It was great to be able to add Sir Rogers' father; "William Wasseburn of Stanford" and his wife Lucy, possibly Rogers' mother ... and there are some even earlier potential ancestor's that could move our known line back from the 13th to the 11th century ... pretty neat stuff!!
later ....

It has been a couple of weeks since we contacted you about your participation in the Military and War Project and we are following up to make sure you wish to remain a member.
We understand that interests shift as we grow our shared tree and that some members may have moved on to projects more pertinent to the branches they are currently building. If this is the case for you, please let us know.
If we do not hear back from you within the week, we will assume you have moved on to other things for the moment and remove you from the project. Please know that you will always be welcome to rejoin should your interests shift back in this direction.
Thank you so much for your participation; we genuinely appreciate it.
Deb ~ Volunteer Coordinator
On behalf of the Military and War Project Leaders, we are doing a six-month check-in with members.
First, we want to thank you for your past participation in the project. We appreciate your desire to honor your ancestors for their service to their countries, or even for your service, wherever in the world. We hope that your membership has enhanced your WikiTree experience.
Please let me know, by commenting on my profile or sending a private message, if you are still active in the project, and if so, in a general sense how you may have contributed to the main project or any sub-projects within the last couple months.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Merry Christmas !!!
On the Fortenberry DNA page:
Is Faulkenberry-62 the same as
The some of those Ebenezer is in my direct line, so it's a bit sad that it's taken me this long to get to him.
I've been spending time lately in the 13th and 12th centuries, trying to firm up some of our early grandfathers.
Here's hoping the Holidays and New Year have been good for you!
The days are starting to blend together here ... trudging thru the winter (it was going fine, and then February showed up).
later.
