Biography

Benjamin Foster was baptized at Scarborough, Maine, 28 Mar 1756, the son of Benjamin Foster and Elizabeth Scott; [1] [2] died at Tower Hill, Saint David, New Brunswick, 10 Nov 1842, ae 88y.

He married at Machias, Maine, 20 Apr 1777, Ruth Scott, [3] [4] baptized at Scarborough, 17 Sep 1758, the daughter of Samuel Scott and Susanna Perry; died, probably at Saint David, possibly before 30 Apr 1817, when her husband initiated a series of deeds to his son, Jeremiah, and sons-in-law, Lawrence Williams and Samuel Dunham, none of which was co-signed by Ruth, namely Charlotte Co, NB, deeds H:141, H:150, O:491.

Benjamin moved from Scarborough to Machias with his parents in 1765, when he was about 10 years old. He had Revolutionary War service on several occasions in 1775-79 inclusive, serving initially as a private and later as a corporal, during which time he saw service at Machias, Fort Cumberland, Nova Scotia, and Penobscot. Benjamin moved to Saint David, New Brunswick, before March 1798 (Charlotte Co. deed B:610). [5]
