Biography

Thomas, son of James Fountain and Elizabeth Ring was born 14 January 1809, in North Carolina. ^[1] He and Jincy Owens were married on April 7th, of 1831 in Jackson Co Indiana, ^[2] where they had at least eleven children. listed below. The family has moved to Center Creek Twp, in Jasper County Missouri, about 1858.

By the fall of 1862, Thomas has inlisted with the confederates, and in February is captured by the rebels, at his home in Minersville. A few days later, on the 25th of February, he is killed at Pool's Prairie, Neosho Township, Missouri. ^[3] He is burried at Oronogo Cemetery in Jasper County, Missouri.^[1]

Note

On the 1850 census ^[5] the family has a girl Sophia, b.1846 and no Joseph b.1845. Then on the 1860 census,^[6], Sohia is gone and Joseph b.1845 is filling the gap where Sophia should be. Have looked in neighboring households for Joseph in 1850, with no luck. Is a mystery how Sophia turned into Joseph.
