Biography

Sometime before the American Revolution (1775), Catherine Fouts married Lawrence Yonts, Sr., and had possibly three children: a boy named LAWRENCE YONTS, JR., and two daughters, one who was named CATHERINE YONTS, after her mother. We do not yet know the name of the second daughter.

Sometime during the War (1775-1781), Catherine (the mother) left Lawrence Sr. and began living with a man named WILLIAM TRUSTY, after which Lawrence took his and Catherine's children to Lincoln County, North Carolina. It does not appear that Catherine and William ever married, but only lived together.

Presumably, William Trusty and Catherine Fouts-Yonts then had an out-of-wedlock son, because in 1786, the couple were charged with adultery and bastardy by the Randolph County Grand Jury.

In the 1790 Census for Frederick County, Maryland, we find Catherine listed as CATHERINE YONTZ, the "female head of household," with one young son, presumably the "love child" she had with William Trusty.

The 1790 Census for Wilkes County, North Carolina, shows Lawrence, listed here as LAURENCE YONCE, living with one male son and two females. This would almost certainly be Catherine's husband, Lawrence Yonts, Sr., and their one son (Lawrence, Jr.) and two daughters (the oldest which was Catherine).

According to the research of Dr John Scott Davenport, Ph.D - Catherine was involved in a scandal during the American Revolution and living apart from Lawrence and her children somewhere in Frederick Co. Maryland in 1790.

Catherine Younce, the dau, was married to Peter Fouts. They were married in 1787. Their first child, Elizabeth was born in 1791 -Gerald Weaver
