Biography

Grace was born in 1592 and baptised on 5 March 1591/1592 at Halifax. She was the daughter of Daniel Foxcroft and Grace Lister his second wife.^[1][2]

Grace wrote her will on 24 April 1663 and died on 11 August 1664. ^[3]

Research Notes

Dates: the marriage date in the Halifax register is 17 July 1609, checked original scan. "Robt Belt, Yorke, Grace Foxcroft".^[4] There is no marriage at all in the Halifax register for 21 May 1606 and the nearby marriages are different people. Robert's first wife Jane Hudson did not die until June 1608, see Dugdale's Visitations already attached.

There is a Find a grave entry with a photo of the inscription. The register is dated 1656 but actual inscription on the plaque is 1650. This Find-a-grave entry is memorial plaque for Sir Robert Belt who died in 1650. The plaque also includes his wife Grace and other family members. ^[5]

Grace was born in 1591 and was baptised on 5 March 1591 in Halifax. She was the daughter of Daniell Foxcroft of Halifax and Grace Lister, his second wife. She passed away in 1664 and was buried at St Botolph's Church, Bossall, Yorkshire.

Marriage

On 17 July 1609 Grace married Robert Belt of Bossall in Halifax. She was the mother of his sons, Leonard, Robert, Daniel, a short-lived John, another John, Jasper, William and Robert. Their daughters were Mary, a short-lived Grace, another Grace, Sarah and Ann.

All children from Robert Belt and Grace Foxcroft were recorded in the Parish Register of All Saints, Pavement, York, and the last child, Robert, in Bossall.

Humphrey Belt

There has been speculation that Humphrey Belt was the son of Robert Belt and Grace Foxcroft. However, this was never backed up with any source document. It could not be possible if his birth date was 1615, due to the spacing of the other children of Robert and Grace.

There is documentary evidence that Humfrye Belt was baptised on 5 May 1616 in St. Saviours Church in Southwark, Surrey, England. He was the son of Richard Belt and Elizabeth Humfrye. He then emigrated to America in 1635 from Gravesend in Kent. See Humfrey Belt
