Lisa,  How's it going?  Last week I found a lot of info abut the Charles P. Franklin bunch at the Benton Co Archives and the library in Bentonville. Found info in the 1903 Benton Co. Atlas about Charles and states about his line and was from England to  AL, TX, Arkansas (Benton Co.) and then I know it goes on  to  MO, and then KS where my mother's family ended up.    The Atlas had lists of people  that lived in Benton Co. and who ever could afford it did a write up, to sponsor the Atlas, about their family and had pictures of their house and their family.    Atlas showed that he was a Farmer and was a fruit grower.  Where they lived, from what the historian at the Archives office said that area was a large producer for Apples in U.S. and from there Apple juice and Apple sauce was produced.  But years later Blight took out all of the crops. Also found a picture of his house in the Atlas.  In the article it said he was of the same family as the "historic Dr. Franklin".  Would that be Benjamin Franklin?  Also, it lists Thomas Franklin.  Thomas Franklin is my Great Grandfather. Also, the last son listed in the write up is Wiley T.  who actually is Wiley Taulton Franklin.  He and his wife Della are buried next to who I believe is my G. G. Grandfather (Charles Pinkney and wife Elizabeth).  I've talked to my mom about all of this and says yes they were relatives of our she knew of Aunt Della, Tault, Maude and talked about her Grandfather Tom Franklin.  The gravesite where I think Charles Pinkney is buried is in a little town 20 min. away from where I live  called Highfill, but need to do more research since there weren't any grave markers, but nick names are listed on a metal chart posted on the fence at the cemetery.  His name was Charles Pinkney Franklin and wife's name was Elizabeth Kathryn (Kirk) Franklin.  His nick name was Pinkie according to my Mom and her nick name was Betsy according to an obituary article/notice  I came across at the library.  Chart at cemetery said "Pank" Franklin and her's said Betsy Franklin.  A lady at the Archives office is going to put me in contact with someone who has more info about the Highfill cemetary, history and who may know if "Pank" is Charles P. Franklin.   I've attached land deeds too.  This is all exciting to me.  Just got to do more digging and try to get date of death for Charles Franklin.  Take care.  Cuz Sharon-------

subjectCharles Pinkney Franklin Buried in ARkansas

Lisa,  Thanks for inspiring me today on Facebook!  I had hit a bump in the road with trying to confirm where Charles Pinkney is buried in Arkansas.   But today I found out some good news.   Here's a little background .Hope you have a minute or more, this is interesting....about my Franklin connection. Charles P. Franklin is my gr. gr. grandfather.  I moved  to Fayetteville AR from Florence, AL about 9 mos. ago. I was happy with my Husband's new job sending us here because I had just gotten into the genealogy.  Tracked  C. P. Franklin from Green Co. AL, Chickasaw Miss, Clarksville Texas then Sugar Creek Mo and then here to Benton Co. Arkansas.  I went to County Archives and traced his last 2 homesteads down.  One in Logan Arkansas then finally Highfill AR.  It's 15 miles from my house. He and his wife had 12 children and moved here in 1872 to a 160 acre farm and was a fruit grower.  At that time this area was the biggest Apple producing area for the US.   He was in the Civ War as you found out too.  And it also mentioned he "Belongs to the same family as the historic Dr. Franklin."    Found about all of that in the 1903 Benton Co. Atlas.  About 6 months ago I tracked down where I think their graves are, from clues that I found.  There were no headstones at the Highfill cemetery for them but I did find a chart on the fence of the Highfill cemetery.  It was a map of who was buried there.  For C.P. Franklin and his wife Elizabeth it only had their nicknames posted.  It said "Pank" Franklin.  For her it said "Betsy" Franklin. My mom said he went by Pinkie/or Pink because of his middle name.   I wanted to confirm this was actually their grave sites.  Especially when I found out that he was in the Civ War I wanted to order him a Civ War headstone.  Asked a lot of questions with folks at the Historical Commisioner Office, Library and even joined the Benton Geneology Society and finally made a contact with someone that was knowledgeable about the Highfill cemetery.   The contact is this lady who is a very "busy" Realtor etc.   Didn't respond to my calIs and e-mails.  I  bugged her so much that she finally called me and said she did have records to Highfill cemetery that was passed to her from a lady that had taken care of the cemetery records but had passed away several years ago.  Also said she was the one who made the chart on the fence about 10 years ago.  She said when she got a chance to look through records and if she ever found out something she would let me know what she found out.  Then closed the conversation with good luck with my search.  I couldn't believe that she was the only one who had access to the cemetery records.   So she was my bump in the road.   Then I contacted a lady with the United Confederate Daughters and Pres. of the Bentonville Chapter.  Thought there may be a connection that way.  She said she would check records that she had at the Benton Historical Museum.  That was a couple weeks ago.  So when I saw your FB info  I thought, I had time today to  follow up with my Charles Franklin adventure.   Met with her today and found records from a 1968 cemetery survey done by a group by the name of the Benton County Extension Homemakers Cemetery Survey.  Ever so often they do cemetery surveys in Benton Co.  They did one again in 1975 and that was when the Franklins were dropped from their records.  The records showed again Franklin, Pank and Betsy.....and then it said words "Father and Mother of Tault Franklin   No dates" .   Awesome!!  Tault Franklin is buried next to them.  He was their youngest son and also, brother to my Great Grandfather Thomas Alexander Franklin.   So now that I have this information I'll probably need to go some where like City Hall at Highfill and have them say yes this is true information.  That was what the lady at the Museum suggested. I though the VA website said I need a letter from an official source proving this is a true fact so I can order the headstone?  I also found out today the Realtor lady I was trying to get help from earlier and  most knowledgeable about the cemetery...her husband was Mayor of Highfill.   You would think their cemetery records would be kept in a more protected place.   Since I was on a roll today and in Bentonville I thought I'd go by the Library . They have a really nice small Genealogical dept and found out some more Civil War info about Charles Franklin.  In Aug of 1891 they had a "Confederate Reunion of Benton County Men".  They had a copy of the original record book for the reunion.  It had a list of names of the soldiers who attended the reunion with their ages, Where they were born, service info and residence.  I'll send you pages from that.  From the roster I only copied the page where Charles was listed.  It was closing time and ran out of time to really take a good look at the rest of roster and to see if I recognized other names. or any other from Texas Cav group.   What a big day!  I'm back in school, going to the U of AR.  Taking German 2 and keeping me very busy.   So with going to school this will all take a little longer. I forgot to mention.  When the lady with the United Daughters found out Charles Pinkney was in the Civ War, she asked and seemed concerned "which side"  I said...Confederate.  Then she said with a smile on her face,  Have you thought about being in the United Daughters of the Confederate?  I thought that was funny how she brought it up. I attached 1903 Benton Co. Atlas pictures.  I can't remember if I had sent them already.  Need to scan the other Civ War Reunion pages. Will send more. Hope I didn't wear you out on all of this. Take care.  Sharon
