Biography

Agnes was born about 1405 daughter to William Fraser of Philorth

Agnes married Sir William Forbes of Kynnaldy in 1423

At Aberdeen on 12 Aug 1424, William Fraser, lord of Philorth granted a charter to William Forbes of Kynnaldy, and to his wife. Agnes, the granter's daughter, and to their heirs of the body of the said William Forbes, whom failing, to Sir Alexander of Forbes, knight, lord of Forbes, etc., of the lands of Glaslach, Culeaok, Tuliuamolt,' Nethir Bulgny, Over Bulgny, Middlemast Bulguy, Auchlun, Petslegach (Pitsligo), Auchmacludy, with the mill of Bulguy and the quarry of Culburty,in the barony of Aberdour, to be held of James of Douglas, lord of Balveny and of Aberdour.Illustrations of the [1]


William Forbes and Agnes Fraser had issue:

  1. Alexander "2nd of Pitsligo" Forbes His Heir who married Maria Hay, said to be a daughter of an Earl of Erroll.
  2. Malcolm "of Meikle Wardis" Forbes who disputed his brother Alexander "2nd of Pitsligo" Forbes right to succession to lands.
  3. Arthur Forbes who married about 1463, Beatrice Douglas, daughter of James Douglas and Beatrice Sinclair. Beatrice Douglas was the widow of William "1st Earl of Erroll" Hay.
  4. ______ Forbes married to James Menzies of Laskgoune, probably son of Gilbert Menzies, burgess of Aberdeen to whom Sir William sold lands.

Agnes was widowed in January 1445/46 when her husband fell at the Battle of Arbroath assisting the Ogilvys and Gordons against the Lindsays.

Agnes survived her husband and retained a liferent of the lands of Pitsligo. On 18 June, 1455, a Royal charter of the lands of Pitsligo in the earldom of Buchan, and of the lands of Meikle Wardis in the regality of Garioch, united into the barony of Pitsligo, was granted to Alexander Forbes of Kynnaldy, on the resignation of himself and Agnes Fraser his mother, but reserving her liferent of the lands.[2]
