Biography

John was born in North Carolina in 1830 to William and Martha (Ferrell) Fraser. He is listed with his parents and some of his siblings on the 1850 Census[1] in Maury, Tennessee.

His middle name, by Maury County sources is "Atlas". However, his son John, Jr. by death certificate is "Atwood". John A Fraser married Amarintha Butts on 25 Mar 1852 in Maury County, Tennessee. [2] He is listed with Amarintha/Emma Rentha on the 1860 Census,[3] the 1870 Census[4] and the 1880 Census.[5] His wife passed away in February of 1910 and he is listed as widowed in the home of his son on the 1910 Census.[6]

Maury Democrat, January 4, 1917 John A. FRAZIER John A. FRAZIER, aged eighty-seven years, died Friday morning at the home of his sister, Mr. W.J. SELLERS, on the Theta Pike. He was one of the best known citizens of that section and had always been held in the highest esteem. He was for many yeas a member of the Methodist church and was a man of exempary character. He is survived by the following children: Mr. Will SELLERS, Will T. FRAZIER, Charles M. FRAZIER, S. F. FRAZIER and Forgey FRAZIER, of the Godwin section, and John FRAZIER, of Columbia. Funeral services were held at Gowin Chapel Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. John HIGHT, assisted by Rev. WAITE, Oakes and Nichols, funeral directors, in charge.

Served in Confederate Army CSA: Co. A, 48th (Voorheis'), TN Infantry, later Capt. Thomas E. Jamison's Co.[7]
