Biography

Gideon Freeman was born May 3, 1726, the son of John Freeman and Thomasin Sears of Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts^{[1] [2] [3] [4]}

On Feb. 25, 1747, he married Hannah Freeman, daughter of Samuel Freeman and Mercy Paine^{[2] [4]}, and their children included:

1. Mercy, born Jan. 22, 1748-9; who died in her old age unmarried, in Hyannis, at Dr. Ford's.^{[2] [4]}
2. Rebecca, born Nov. 8, 1750; who married Simeon Kingman, Esq, of Bridgewater on Oct. 15, 1778^{[2] [4]}
3. Betty, born Sept. 24, 1753 ; who married a widower, Rev. Jonah. Bascom on Feb. 10, 1785^{[2] [4]}
4. Mary, born March 28, 1757; who married Stephen Hall of Sandwich, Mass on March 19, 1776^{[2] [4]}
5. Sarah, born May 31, 1760; who died Dec. 25, 1760^{[2] [4]}
6. Sarah, born Nov. 30, 1761 ; who died July 18, 1795, at age 34, unmarried^{[2] [4]}
7. Hannah, born June 9, 1765; who married Allen Bourne of Sandwich, Mass on Nov. 13, 1788^{[2] [4]}

Gideon Freeman was selectman of Eastham for several years, and a prominent citizen^[2]. His wife, Hannah died Aug. 15, 1795, at age 69^{[2] [4]}

Major Freeman died Nov. 4, 1807, at age 81^{[2] [4]}, and is buried in Orleans Cemetery in Orleans, Barnstable, Massachusetts^[5]

After his death, his house passed to his son-in-law Simeon Kingman, and in the winter of 1813 was destroyed by fire^[2]
