Born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in nearby Royal Oak, Glenn Frey studied piano at age five, later switched to guitar, and became part of the mid-1960's Detroit rock scene. One of his earliest bands was called the Subterraneans, named after Jack Kerouac's novel, and included fellow Dondero High School classmates Doug Edwards (later replaced by Lenny Mintz) on drums, Doug Gunsch and Bill Barnes on guitar, with Jeff Hodge on bass.

Fry graduated in 1970 from Dondero High School (now Royal Oak Middle School) in Royal Oak, Michigan, where there is a street next to the school named for him.

Glenn Frey was married twice. From 1983 to 1988, he was married to artist Janie Beggs. He married dancer and choreographer Cindy Millican in 1990. They had three children: a daughter, Taylor, in 1991 and two sons, Deacon in 1993 and Otis in 2002 and remained together until his death. Deacon, following his father's death, toured with the surviving Eagles until he departed in 2022 in favor of a solo career.

Glenn was well known as one of the founding members of The Eagles, a famous rock/country band that was active mostly throughout the 1970's and early 1980's. Glenn performed lead vocals on many of their songs, and also played the guitar, piano, and keyboards. He often shared songwriting credits with Eagles member Don Henley, and between the two of them, the wrote most of the Eagles' songs. They had 24 hit songs that made it into the top 100, like "Lyin' Eyes", "Hotel California", "New Kid In Town", "Heartache Tonight" and "How Long". The Eagles won six Grammy Awards and five American Music Awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

Glenn passed away on 18 January 2016 due to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia, while recovering from intestinal surgery.

Frey-3958 and Frey-1451 appear to represent the same person because: I unknowingly created a duplicate profile for Glenn Frey, I had spelled his given name as Glen, a typo on my part, which may be why the original profile did not appear ?
