Biography

Phineas Friend (1770-1849)

Born in the spring of 1770 in Beverly Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony (MBC), Phineas Friend was the eldest child of Martha Dodge & Benjamin Friend. Within his first 2 years, Phineas would accompany his parents to the settlement of MBC Land Grant #4 @ Naskeag, Lincoln County, MBC (aka. Sedgwick, Maine). Here, within 6 years, his parents would help clear 300 acres of land, help build homes for 60 families, help erect a meeting house & help settle a minister. Martha Dodge Friend would raise 11 children.

Phineas married Hannah Carter, daughter of Lydia Day & James Carter of Sedgwick, Maine. Phineas & Hannah Friend would stay in Sedgwick until 1810 when they moved to Etna, Penobscot, Maine where James C Friend & Lydia C Friend were born.

At some point before his 79th birthday, Phineas moved back to Sedgwick where he died. Phineas was buried with his wife Hannah in Etna, Penobscot, Maine.

  • ii. PHINEAS; b. 7 Feb 1799 at Sedgwick, Hancock, Maine.[1]
  • iii. AMOS; b. 16 Sep 1800 at Sedgwick, Hancock, Maine; m. Sally DeWolf Fuller, daughter of Francis Fuller and Sally Dinsmore, 4 Jul 1825 at Carmel, Penobscot, Maine; d. 16 Jan 1864 at Etna, Penobscot, Maine, at age 63.[1]
  • iv. JOEL; b. 18 Jun 1802 at Sedgwick, Hancock, Maine; d. 7 Apr 1803 at Sedgwick, Hancock, Maine.
  • v. DAVID; b. 25 Apr 1804 at Sedgwick, Hancock, Maine; m. Rebecca Carter, daughter of Edward Carter and Ruth Dyer, 15 Oct 1831 at Etna, Penobscot, Maine; d. 9 Jan 1894 at Etna, Penobscot, Maine, at age 89.[1]
  • vi. HANNAH; b. 14 Apr 1806 at Sedgwick, Hancock, Maine.[1]
