Biography

From "Genealogy of Some Descendants of Captain Matthew Fuller" pp.31,32 [1] 1. ABIJAH FULLER, (Samuel, Thomas, Samuel, Matthew), b. Dec. 29, 1726, in Barnstable; d. Oct. 29, 1804; was buried in the "Young Street" graveyard in Chatham, Ct.; m. 1, Aug. 7, 1746, at Middle Haddam, Ct., Esther Arnold, b. May 29, 1722; d. April 22, 1762.

He m. 2, Sept. 8, 1763, Martha Hale. One record of his first marriage adds the words "in the 20 year of his Age." He returned to Barnstable after his marriage, but came back to Ct. in two years, and resided in Chatham until death. An old record in possession of Mrs. Prudence (Young) Wright, East Hampton, Ct. gives his family record. and adds: "I set sail from cape cod May ye 2, 1749. Arrived into Connecticut River May ye 11. 1749."

His wife was a member of the West Barnstable Church during their brief residence there, and the eldest child was born and baptized there the others were born in Chatham. Children

Abigail, b. April 25, 1769; d. Nov. 16, 1857, at Brooklyn, O.; m. about 1796, Ensign Asa Brainard, and had Maria', b. 1797, in Middle Haddam; Marvin', Feb. 9, 1799; Marietta, Sept. 26, 1801; Simon, about 1808; d. about Jan., 1815; Martha', 1811; d. 1838, in Cleveland, O.; Louisa, April 29, 1814, and Betsy Ann'.
