Biography

John Robert Furr was born to parents, Daniel Vernon Furr and Sarah (Blackwelder) Furr on 27 December 1907 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina.[1][2]

John Robert Furr was in the first graduating class at Harrisburg High School. According to John, the other graduates were Viola Sides, Eva Spears, Jesse Barbee, Lloyd Garmon, Leonard Parrish.[3]

When John was 18, he and his older brothers were hired to build 12-year-old Ivey Dulin a house (for her, her brother, and their mother) with money that her father left her specifically for that purpose. A few years later, on 21 Dec 1929, John and Ivey were married.[4] They had three children: Hilda Frances Furr, Donald Brown Furr, and Kenneth Eugene Furr.[5] John farmed and worked in the Cannon Textile Mill for most of his life[6]

John died 03 Jan 2004 at the age of 96 in Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina. He was buried in Roberta United Methodist Church Cemetery in Concord.[7]
